World’s Largest Bat Colony at Monfort Bat Sanctuary Samal Island

Spectacular caves are one of the world wonders that God gave for us. Some people are afraid of caves because of it's creepy deep dark hole and due to scary movies they saw but for me caves are a great challenge and unforgetable experience, a great experience to explore some. But on this article, I'm talking about the cave which is the "home sweet home" of little creatures.

They called this cave a Bat Sanctuary Cave where millions of bats reside. It is the world’s largest colony of Geoffrey’s Rousette (Rousettus Amplexicaudatus) fruit bats living in the Monfort Bat Sanctuary and one of the tourist spots in the Philippines. It is a unique large cave with 5 deep holes however you cannot enter inside the cave because bats are surrounding even at the cave entrance. This is not a man made cave and I know you will be amazed how great Philippine nature is.

Monfort Bat Sanctuary Cave is located in Samal Island, Davao del Norte and I don't recommend you getting there with a bat cave travel target only. You can visit nice beaches at Samal Island and then just include this bat cave in your itinerary.

To reach Samal Island, take a ferry boat from Davao City Sasa wharf. There are lots of boats there with Igacos route. If you have a vehicle with you, I recommend take a barge. To experience more adventure, I suggest to ride a small motor boat and you will be overwhelmed seeing nice coral reefs and fishes under the water. Don't worry, it is not a shark infested sea.

When you reach in PeƱaplata, ride a motorcycle and tell the driver to drop you at the Bat cave. They will ask you for a higher fare because it is really far from the docking station. Having a vehicle with you is an advantage when travelling.
